ABOUT ARTWORK OYA
The work was created in celebration of the independence of Nigeria, focusing on the Yoruba culture, where facial marks and ornamentation were means of beautifying a woman. the predominant green theme of the image is a tip as to how endowed the country and its people are. The deity represented herself as a goddess of fertility and plenty. Oya is the wife of Sango who made a family of powerful deities and was also the daughter of Obatala.
ABOUT ARTIST
Oluwaseyi Ojo is an iconic photographer, born April 27, 1993. He studied fine and
applied art at Obafemi Awolowo University. Mentored by Mathias Aragbada
(Dudutoonz), Emmanuel Oyewole(101 carvan), Adegbola
Adetayo(Gramzmedia). He honed his skills with renowned photography brands
in Nigeria for years, before establishing his artistry as a freelance
photographer with brands, individuals, and organizations. Oluwaseyi is a
visual activist for gender equality for African women.
