How to get your first 10 customer reviews

2026-08-21 · BuyAvrika

A new online store has a trust problem. You know your products are good. The stranger looking at your page at midnight does not, and nothing you write about yourself will fully convince them. Other buyers saying "it arrived, it was good" will.

That is the entire case for reviews. Here is how to get your first ten.

Make reviewing possible and honest

First, the mechanics. Reviews only build trust when they cannot be faked. A review box that anybody can type into is worth little, and shoppers can smell it. Verified-purchase reviews, where only someone who actually bought and received the product can write one, are the kind that convert.

On BuyAvrika this is built in: a buyer can only review a product after their order is marked delivered, and their review carries a verified badge. That constraint is a feature. It means every review on your page is proof.

Ask at the right moment

The best time to ask is shortly after delivery, when the product is in their hands and the excitement is fresh. A week later the moment is gone.

You do not have to remember to ask. When you mark an order delivered, the buyer automatically gets an email inviting them to review what they bought, with a link straight to the product. Your job is simply to mark deliveries promptly, which you should be doing anyway.

Give a reason to come back and write

People are busy. A small thank-you converts intention into action: a discount code for the next order in exchange for an honest review does two jobs at once. It nudges the review, and it gives a happy customer a reason to buy again.

Set this up once: create a discount code, attach it as your review reward, and every verified reviewer automatically receives it by email. Note the word honest: you are rewarding the act of reviewing, never the star count. Five slightly imperfect but real reviews outsell five suspicious perfect ones.

Do not fear the imperfect review

A four-star review that says "beautiful dress, delivery took an extra day" reads as true, and true is what sells. Respond to criticism by fixing the thing, not by hiding the review. Save the hide button for abuse, not for honesty.

The first-ten playbook

1. Mark orders delivered promptly, so the review invitation goes out while the parcel is still exciting.
2. Attach a modest reward, say 5 or 10 percent off the next order.
3. For your earliest orders, follow up personally on WhatsApp: "Did it arrive well? A short review on the product page would mean a lot."
4. Put your store link where your happiest customers already are: your status, your bio, your thank-you note in the parcel.

Ten verified reviews will not happen in a day, but with the machinery running automatically, every delivery becomes a chance. And once strangers can see proof that ordering from you works, everything else you do sells better.
